Why It Works

The foundation of The Movie Making Process© is based upon the pioneering work of four brilliant men; all of whom have a great deal to offer education and human development:

Dr. Stanley Greenspan and his work with early childhood development
Dr. Howard Gardner and his work in the theory of Multiple Intelligences
Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais and his development of The Feldenkrais Method® of learning through awareness
Ron Davis and his work with dyslexia and perceptual difficulties

The basis of their work and Taproot’s early case studies can be found in the book, The Matrix Model  by Taproot founder Dr. Dorothy Halla-Poe

For more information about the neuroscience of “focused attention” and neuroplasticity, see:
  • The Mind and The Brain by Dr. Jeffrey M. Schwartz and Sharon Begley (Harper Collins Publishers)
  • The Brain That Changes Itself by Dr. Norman Doidge. (www.normandoidge.com)

Attention must be captured. One cannot demand attention. One can demand obedience, but not attention. New learning requires attention and NOVELTY captures attention.”

Attention can sculpt brain activity by turning up or down the rate at which particular sets of synapses fire….firing a set of synapses again and again makes them grow stronger, it follows that attention is an important ingredient for neuroplasticity.” This is how and why we can USE the movies to direct attention and accelerate learning. Movies capture our attention!

For those interested in Cinematherapy, Hollywood Endings and How to Get One by co-founder Linda Flanders is a young person’s self-help book, offering several movies to watch and to learn from.

The key is to watch and learn from the movie, then go out into life and act the same way on the chance you’ll get the same result, or to NOT act the same way if you want a different outcome.

“…it’s gratifying to be reminded that one’s work can actually have Universal implications…Linda Flanders does an admirable job of illustrating that life and art are not mutually exclusive and that movies….are really the stories of our lives.”
Ernest Thompson, Academy Award© winning writer of “On Golden Pond”
